Ted LaRocca is a 3rd generation trumpet player hailing from and deeply entrenched in New Orleans music and culture. He is the grandson of Nick LaRocca, a Jazz Pioneer and developed his chops and a lot of his repertoire playing jazz and Mardi Gras music with a sprinkling of ballads attributed to his first favorite singer… his mother.
In addition to playing with some of the bigger acts in NOLA he’s been in many local bands covering genres from jazz, brass bands, Ska and Punk. In his travels he’s been fortunate enough to play in Klezmer bands, a Russian Gypsy band (Chervona from Portland…. Check them out), the northernmost Latin Jazz band in the world in Fairbanks, AK and the jumpingest, swankiest Rock-a-billy swing band in the land… The Stoodups (also from Portland and are long overdue for a reunion)!
Over the years He’s picked up enough dixieland, standards, blues, country and swing tunes to play over 5 hours of music ranging from Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, Louis Jordan and almost any other Louis you can think of with anything from a duo to a big band.
Whether rocking the house or playing pretty on any given night, depending on mood and musician compliment, you’re likely to hear a fresh interpretation of a beloved standard from Ted LaRocca and the Creole Gentlemen.
